Create a Seed
When you create a new wallet, you are given a seed phrase. This is a backup of your private keys, which allows you to recover your wallet if you lose access. Your seed phrase is the most important thing you’ll ever get with your wallet. If you lose it, you lose access to your Bitcoin.
What is a Seed Phrase?
A seed phrase is a list of 12 or 24 words generated randomly when you create a wallet. These words are a human-readable backup of your private keys, which control your Bitcoin. Example:
- apple
- orange
- peach
When you enter the seed phrase, the wallet regenerates your private keys, and you can access your Bitcoin. Keep your seed phrase safe and offline. Never store it on your phone or computer.
How to Create a Seed
When setting up your wallet, you’ll be given a seed phrase to write down. Here’s what to do:
- Write down the seed phrase on paper (preferably 12-24 words)
- Store the paper in a safe, offline location (e.g., a safe or lockbox)
- Do not store it digitally (no photos or text files!)
- Consider getting a metal backup for extra security (in case of fire or water damage)
Important: If someone has access to your seed phrase, they have access to your funds.
