Anonymity

Bitcoin is often called anonymous. In reality, it is better described as pseudonymous. You don’t need to provide your name, address, or identity to use Bitcoin. Instead, transactions are connected to addresses — not to real people. Anyone can create a Bitcoin address. No registration. No permission.

Public Transactions

Every Bitcoin transaction is recorded on a public blockchain. This ledger is transparent and visible to anyone. This means:

  • Transactions between addresses can be seen
  • Balances are traceable over time
  • Transaction history cannot be erased
If an address is ever linked to a real identity, its entire transaction history becomes visible.

Privacy in Practice

Bitcoin offers more privacy than traditional banking, but less than physical cash. How private Bitcoin is depends on how it is used:

  • Reusing addresses reduces privacy
  • Exchanges often require identity verification
  • Careless usage can reveal patterns

Bitcoin does not guarantee anonymity. It gives users control — and responsibility.
